From road to rail
By using innovative BlackBoxX containers, around 8,000 truck journeys totaling approx. 6.4 million kilometers per year have been successfully transferred from road to rail.
thyssenkrupp Materials Trading relies on effective BlackBoxX containers to transport foundry coke. The raw materials experts from the thyssenkrupp Group have transferred the supply chain for this easily damaged product from road to rail. As part of the innovative logistics concept, two trains per week travel from Poland and one from the Czech Republic to Germany and Denmark. One train includes 54 BlackBoxX containers, each holding 27 tons of coke.
Careful handling
The volume transferred from road to rail amounts to approx. 200,000 tons per year. This replaces around 8,000 truck journeys totaling approx. 6.4 million kilometers per year. “The new transportation concept is much more cost-effective and eco-friendly than the previous road transportation. The coke is also less likely to be damaged as it is reloaded less frequently,” said Sebastian Kihm, Senior Head of Foundry & Minerals at thyssenkrupp Materials Trading.
